What Playbook 23 is, what your child can do without you, what changes when you join, and the one thing we will not do even if you ask.

The short version.
Playbook 23 is a private record your child keeps of what they do across Academics, Athletics, Character and Growth. It produces an explainable Score that tracks their momentum month to month. There is no leaderboard of students, no messaging, no public profile, no advertising and no cost.
Your child must be 13 or over — there is no route for a younger child, including through you. A student aged 13 to 17 can register on their own and keep a complete record. When you join, more features unlock and you gain oversight tools.
The part most parents want to know first: on their own, your child's record is visible to nobody. Not their school, not a coach, not another student, not the public.
The two tiers
What changes when you join.
The dividing line is not arbitrary. Everything available without a parent concerns only your child and information they typed themselves. Everything that waits for you involves another person seeing them, or a photograph, or a location.
Without you
Independent Student
Complete and permanent. We do not degrade it, time-limit it, or prompt repeatedly to get you involved.

With you
Supported Student
You register your own account, are verified as an adult, link to your child, and agree to features one at a time — not once for everything.

What you can do
The oversight tools, plainly.
Correct
Fix anything inaccurate. Corrections flow through and the Score is recalculated without it.
Delete
Remove an entry, the student account, or the whole household. Honoured within 30 days, purged from backups within 90.
Control connections
Approve, decline and revoke every team or organization connection individually, having seen exactly what is being requested.
Set limits
Limit time spent in the app. A time limit never costs your child credit, a milestone or a streak they already earned.
Withdraw consent
Any consent you gave, at any time. The full-tier features switch off, the minimal experience continues, and the record is not deleted.
The one thing we will not do
We do not offer covert monitoring.
When you link to your child's account, your child is told. They are shown exactly what you can see and what you can change. If that ever expands, they are told again. There is no hidden mode, no silent option, and no setting we can enable for a parent who asks.
This is partly a legal requirement — several state design codes now require that a young person be given an obvious signal when their activity is being monitored. But it is mostly a judgement about what actually works. Oversight a teenager knows about is oversight they can talk to you about. The other kind gets discovered eventually, and what it costs is the trust you were trying to protect.
If you need genuinely covert monitoring of a child at risk, Playbook 23 is the wrong tool, and we would rather say so here than have you find out later.
Getting connected
Two ways to join, depending on who started.
You set it up
You create your own parent account, are verified as an adult, and register your child from it. The full feature set is available from the start, subject to the consents you give feature by feature.
They started without you
Your child already registered on their own. You claim the account: we confirm the request with them, verify that you are an adult and their parent or guardian, and then link the two accounts.
If your child disputes a claim
We pause it. We tell both of you what we need, and we ask for documentary proof of the parental relationship — a court order, a school record naming the guardian, or an equivalent official document. If it is not resolved, the account stays unlinked and your child continues on the minimal tier.
We do not take sides in a family dispute, we do not link an account on the strength of an assertion alone, and we do not treat delay as agreement. We know that is frustrating if you are the parent in the right. It is the only rule that also protects the child whose claiming adult is not.
Also worth knowing
Four things parents ask.
What their school sees
Nothing about your child individually. If they choose to contribute to their school's totals, the school receives a figure describing a group — and only where the group is large enough that no individual can be picked out of it. There is no setting that can reveal a named student.
What it costs
Nothing, at any tier. No subscriptions, no in-app purchases, no virtual currency, no prizes. If anything inside the app ever asks your child for payment details, it is not us — tell us immediately.
Photos and location
Only where you have consented, and always optional. Evidence is assessed, an outcome recorded, and the file destroyed — within 7 days at the outside. No facial template or voiceprint is ever created, and we run no facial recognition.
When they turn 18
The account converts to an adult account, your link ends, and your access stops completely — nothing is retained for you. Consents you gave are re-presented to your child to confirm or withdraw. We tell you both 30 days beforehand.
