The Student Rules

How to use Playbook 23 — written for you to actually read.

Version 1.0 · Effective 27 August 2026 · Last updated 27 August 2026

What this is

These are the rules for using Playbook 23. They are not a contract, and you did not sign anything. They are the rules of the place, the way a team has rules.

There is a longer document called the Terms and Conditions. That one is a real contract, and only an adult can agree to it — a parent or guardian, or a student who is 18 or over. If you are 13 to 17 and you signed up on your own, that document is not about you. This one is.

It is short on purpose. If any of it is unclear, that is our fault, not yours — tell us and we will fix the wording.

1You have to be 13

Playbook 23 is for people aged 13 and over. There is no version for younger children, and there is no way around that — not even with a parent's help.

So tell us your real age. If you tell us an age that is not true, or if the class year you put in does not match the age you gave, we will ask you to fix it before you carry on. If it turns out you are under 13, we have to close the account and delete everything in it. We would rather you just waited until your birthday.

2Your record is yours

Everything you put into Playbook 23 belongs to you. We do not own it and we never will.

We need your permission to hold it, show it back to you, and work out your Score. That is what the permission is for, and that is all it is for. We do not use your record in advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not use it to train artificial intelligence. If you delete something, our permission to hold it ends.

If you have no parent linked to your account, nobody can see your record but you. Not your school. Not a coach. Not another student. Not us, except where somebody here needs to for a reason we explain in the Privacy Policy, and every time that happens it is logged.

3Keep it honest

This is the important one, so it gets the most space.

A Development Record is only worth having if it is true. A Score built on things you did not do is not worth anything to you, and it is not worth anything to anyone looking at it. So:

  • Put in things that actually happened.
  • Do not make an activity bigger than it was.
  • Do not put the same activity in twice.
  • Do not record something somebody else did.
  • Do not ask anyone to back up something that did not happen, and do not do it for anyone else. Do not buy, sell or trade proof or recognition.
  • Do not use a script, a bot or any other trick to add entries or push your Score up.

What happens if an entry is not real

We run automatic checks that look for patterns that do not add up. If a check or a person finds an entry that is not real, we take that entry out and work out your Score again without it.

That is a correction, not a punishment. We do not dock points. We do not take away a milestone you actually earned. We do not break a streak you actually earned.

If a check changes your Score and you think it got it wrong, ask us and a person will look at it. Write to us at the address in section 12. We will tell you what we find.

Doing it again and again, or doing it deliberately, is different. That can lead to your account being closed — see section 9.

4Things you must not do

Most of this list will never come up for you. It is here so that the rules are written down rather than made up later.

  • Do not let anyone under 13 use Playbook 23, and do not set up an account for them.
  • Do not share your account or your password with anyone, and do not use anyone else's.
  • Do not pretend to be someone you are not.
  • Do not try to work out which individual student is behind a school's group numbers. Those numbers are built so that nobody can be picked out of them, and trying to undo that is not allowed.
  • Do not try to break, test, scrape or get around any part of the app, including the age check.
  • Do not upload anything that is against the law, anything that belongs to someone else, or a photo of another person who has not agreed to it.
  • Do not use Playbook 23 to recruit, scout or sell to anyone.

There is no chat and no photo sharing in Playbook 23, so no other student can message you here. If anyone ever finds a way to reach you through the app, tell us straight away.

5Things that need a parent

Some things stay switched off until a parent or guardian joins your account and agrees to them. That is not because we think less of you. It is because each of those things involves another person seeing you, or involves a photo or a place.

On your ownWith a parent
Your record, your Score, your goals, your milestonesYesYes
A copy of your own record, emailed to youYesYes
Adding your school and counting toward its totalsYesYes
Photo or location proof for an activityNoYes, if a parent agrees
Someone else backing up or recognising an entryNoYes
Connecting to a team or organization that can see youNoYes, if a parent agrees
Sending your profile to somebody elseNoYes, if a parent agrees

Saying no costs you nothing. If you decide not to involve a parent, or you say no to something optional, your Score does not go down, you do not lose a milestone, and your streak does not break. The version you have on your own is a whole product, not a trial. We will not water it down over time or keep asking.

6If a parent joins your account

You will know. We tell you when a parent or guardian links to your account, and we show you exactly what they can see and what they can change. If that ever grows, we tell you again.

We do not do secret monitoring. Nobody can watch your account without you being told.

A parent can see your record, correct things, delete things, approve or cancel connections, and set a limit on time in the app. A time limit never takes away credit, a milestone or a streak you already earned. You keep your own controls too — a parent joining does not take those off you.

If someone tries to claim your account and you do not think they should, tell us. We will stop and ask for real proof before anything is linked. We do not link an account just because an adult says so.

7Your school

You can add your school and choose to let your activity count toward its totals. If you turn that on, your school gets a number about a group — never anything about you.

Your school cannot see your record, your Score, or your name. It cannot contact you here. And a group number only ever shows once there are enough students in it that no one can be picked out. It is your choice, it starts switched off, and you can switch it off again whenever you want.

8There is no money in Playbook 23

Playbook 23 is free. There is nothing to buy, no subscription, no coins, no fees, no prizes, and no ads anywhere in it. Nobody will ever ask you to pay for anything.

So if anything asks you for money, it is not us

If anything inside the app ever asks you for card details or a payment, do not give it anything, and tell us at help@playbook23.com.

9If we have to close an account

We can close an account if someone is under 13, if an age problem is not fixed, if entries are faked again and again or on purpose, if the rules in section 4 are broken, if someone lied about being a parent, or if the law makes us.

If that happens to you, we will tell you what we are doing and why, and where it is something that can be put right, we will give you a fair chance to put it right first. The only time we will not explain is if the law stops us, or if explaining would put a young person in danger.

Things we will never close your account for

Saying no to something optional. Changing your mind and taking a permission back. Asking to see, fix or delete your information. Not wanting a parent linked. Complaining about us.

None of those will ever cost you your account, your Score, a milestone or a streak. If anyone tells you otherwise, they are wrong, and we want to hear about it.

10If you think we got something wrong

Write to us at the address in section 12. Say what happened and what you think should have happened.

If we closed or suspended your account, someone who was not part of the original decision will look at it again, and we will reply within 30 days.

You can also delete your account yourself at any time, from inside the app — Profile → Settings → Delete account. It is no harder than signing up was. Everything goes within 30 days, and out of our backups within 90.

11When these rules change, and when you turn 18

If we change something important in these rules, we will tell you at least 30 days before it happens, and we will ask you to agree to the new version. Carrying on using the app does not count as agreeing — we will actually ask.

When you turn 18 you become an adult. Your account becomes an adult account, any parent link ends, and their access stops completely. Anything a parent agreed to on your behalf comes back to you to confirm or turn off yourself, and anything you do not confirm switches off. We tell you and them 30 days before. Your record is yours and it stays with you.

12Talk to us

Questions, problems, or something in here that does not make sense:

help@playbook23.com — or use the help screen in the app.

For anything about your information — seeing it, fixing it, deleting it — write to privacy@playbook23.com. The Privacy Policy explains all of that in full.

One last thing

These rules exist to make the record mean something. Almost all of them come down to one idea: put in what really happened, and the number you end up with is actually yours.
